About Samanunga
The word “samanunga” comprises the concepts I like to associate with this website. It’s origin refers to my Dutch heritage and linguistic background, it’s meaning refers to the collection of professional and personal thoughts I like to share with you. Samanunga is pronunciable in many tongues and it currently does not have a meaning in Dutch or English.
Samanunga means collection or society (collection of people). It is one of the words in ancient Dutch that form the third sentence in Dutch ever found. The sentence was written underneath a list of 30 friars, hence samanunga is sometimes also referred to as the community of friars listed. The words are partly Latin and partly Dutch and were found in a cloister in MunsterBilzen (Limburg) around AD 1130:
tesi samanunga vvas edele unde scona
& omnium virtutem pleniter plena
how noble and beautiful this collection is
and how virtuous indeed
